Intro to banh-mi

in my eyes...banh-mi is like a work of art to me.

my mission: to find the best banh-mi in town...as in Houston. Yes, Houston,TX...America's fattest city..according to the radio today. Hey, we can't help it if everything is bigger in TEXAS...just kidding...

I sort of regret not starting this adventure sooner....I could have squeezed in a few tastings from my previous travels. Any who, if you look up 'banh-mi' in Houston's Yelp there will be plenty of tastings for my epic quest...

ATTENTION: make sure to carry CASH, majority of the joints accepts CASH ONLY

If you're wondering why I chose to stuff my face with banh-mi....where do I even begin?!?
During my teen years, I spent my summer and weekends working for my aunt's banh-mi joint..got the ins and outs on the ingredients. Sadly, the shop closed down.

I think a banh-mi is the cheapest meal I can get with all sorts of ingredients to fulfill my Vietnamese taste buds...from sour to slightly sweet, crispy-crunchy to soft and warm textures. Not to mention the love I have for french baguettes. I did some research and tried to bake my own, didn't go too well..in the end I ended up with regular french breads. French Baguettes are airy and light with a crispy thin crust.. I can just it eat plane jane or for most viets, eat it with a sunny side egg with a dash of maggi soy sauce. ohhhhh and dip it in Bo Kho (Vietnamese beef stew)

Off the banh-mi subject...A few banh mi joints sells 'pate de chaud'...sounds more like 'pate te so'. It's a puff pastry crust filled with pork or chicken.

My friend is having a party this weekend...I'm itching to make my own batch for her guests to be my guinea pigs..hahaha
Until then, I will try to update my first quest, along with my 'pate de chaud' experiment...within a few weeks..max!

P.S. To those who are attending the Rodeo cook-off...I dislike you!!
Also, special thanks to my family & friends for their support xoxo <3
Later gators,
